I got this for my grandkids but after reading it, I actually tore it up and threw it into the recycle. It’s that bad.
The “hero” is a brat who treats everyone and everything as secondary to whatever he personally wants at any given moment and he learns nothing to the contrary from his escapades.
The mythology is a mess. Fairies … traditionally associated with forests and streams … have chosen to live in underground tunnels like moles. Huh?
They not only have magic, but also no discernible civilization or genius, yet have somehow developed technology way beyond ours. Puh-leeze.
They not only have magic and superior technology, but also are just as petty, power hungry and generally unpleasant as humans, yet they HIDE rather than try to dominate at least SOME of the upper world? Riiight.
Centaurs … HUGE, noble star-gazers, right? Here, Foaly is living in tunnels with 3 foot tall fairies, to whom he is the subservient techno-nerd. Suuuuure.
And did I mention the hero is a rich, spoiled, morally challenged bully who wins in the end? YUCK!

I love that subtitle: “The Crispiest Fried Potatoes, Moistest Roast Chicken, Plumpest Garlicky Mussels, and Heartiest Beers”. If your mouth’s watering, wait till you tear into this one. A great book, much loved by a small cult following (though I believe it’s selling well to the mainstream, as well). Belgium is not the sleepy sister of France; it’s a chowhound mecca, and this will make you fall in love with it.

The first failed on second use and was, as always, replaced by Amazon without question
That replacement failed after about 14 months. It was only being used in my netbook as additional storage – and so was not subjected to the wear and tear of removal and insertion. Nor does my netbook have heavy use (being only used on vacation) It went in, and remained there until failure – which only amounted to about 5 weeks of actual use.
During that time period I had bought another of these Transcend 16 GB Class 6 SDHC cards to use in a camera. As I use a card reader to transfer images to the computer this SD card was removed and reinserted several times a month. It failed after about 8 months.
In January of this year I had bought another of these, and it failed last month – 5 months of light use in a different digital SLR.
I have Kingston and SanDisk 16 GB cards, none of which have failed.
Additionally, I have over a dozen Transcend 2-8 GB SDHC cards, none of which have failed either.
I can only conclude that either I have experienced a highly improbable event with this 100% failure rate, or that there is a flaw in the Transcend 16 GB cards.
This latter seems much more likely, and I will avoid Transcend cards of more than 8 GB capacity.
Today I just bought a SanDisk 32 GB SDHC – though more expensive than the Transcend 32 GB, I have the expectation that it is not as likely to fail.
Caveat emptor: Let the buyer beware.

…but I just couldn’t. Honestly, it stressed me out. I wasn’t enchanted or transported, just full of anxiety at the turn of every page. I read a lot of books, and I review very few, but this is a book I really wanted to love and had to force myself to finish. I was hoping for something more along the lines of “Carter Beats the Devil”, but instead I got “The Devil tortures Carter and his girl and Carter ends up alone in a nursing home.” I just couldn’t get behind this story.

I love the ipod touch. I bought this for my daughter as a Christmas present and she never goes anywhere without it. Now seven months down the line, the power button no longer works. When I first purchased the ipod I read that there is a one year warranty on the device and felt that it was suitable. So I called Apple to discuss replacement options. Apple informed me that they do not honor Amazon warranty’s. They only honor Best Buy, Frys, Walmart, etc…… and suggested that I contact Amazon.
Dont get me wrong. I have had great customer service with Amazon. Never had a problem. But when I contacted them this time I was told that I should contact
Apple, that Amazon does not cover the warranty. I explained the conversation that I had with the Apple rep and the Amazon rep placed me on hold several times to confer with his supervisor. After three times being placed on hold I was told that there was nothing that they could do. I was completely aggravated by this time and pointed out that on the Amazon web page for the exact same device that I ordered, it plainly states that there is a 1 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY! After explaining exactly where that warranty info is mentioned (under technical details for those of you interested)I was once again placed on hold.
When the representative finally returned he told me that he doesnt know why Apple does not warranty Amazon ipods but that he will accept a return on the item and I will receive a full refund. No exchange.
I did purchase another Ipod for my daughter but it did NOT come from Amazon. I purchased it from Best Buy where I know that this item is covered under a 1 years manufactures warranty.

This well-researched book argues for a regime of healthy eating using fresh produce. I have had serious weight issues myself and I have probably tried every diet there is going. The secret of healthy eating is feeling good about yourself and your body image. For a divine entity of incomprehensible dimensions, infinite mass is what God feels comfortable with, and this comforts me.

We enjoy reading the book together, but I can’t wait for the batteries to go dead. It’s so frustrating to try to read the book with the baby constantly pushing the buttons to play the music. We almost have to fight to get the correct buttons pushed to match the story, because he’s so busy with the music buttons he doesn’t care about the story. Maybe if you have a quieter baby that enjoys sitting and listening, this might be a better match; but my baby is constantly on the move and it’s hard enough to keep him interested in a story without the distraction.
